Ok, finally decided to give the foil a chance.

my only experience was this summer with a Bic foil, isonic 110 and dacron school sail in about 10-12 kts . I got Flying pretty quick and held the flight quite easily.

in my homespot summer wind is often 6-12 kts so my idea is to buy some stuff to enjoy those conditions.
Used to fw i like the sporty part of the foil. Meaning, as soon as i will handle it I'd like to sail as fast as possible (for me).

Plenty of slalom stuff in my box...
I'm not sure starting with my big slalom board is a good idea, unless i don't care about its life!

So, what i need to achieve my goals (apart many hours trining) ?
I'd like to get some advice about what and which foil to buy (brand, material, size) and, eventually, the same for the board.

Thx for your help

I was offered a Starboard Carbon Race Foil....
Ok, i agree, this is too much for my very beginner level but the guy says he started and learnt with it (using his Fw board).

Is it much different sailing a fw board compared to dedicated board?
That foil ca be used with a 85 cm slalom board with some good result?
Just in case, what's the best condition of wind to start with and what sail size I should go (I only have old 5.7 core as no cam sail or any size 4 cams sails)..
Where to place the mast base?

thx

For a weak wind, you need a large wing loke foil lk1 1200 or frpgear.com

5.7 + Formula board + team set 800 wing... hum.
The foil itself is quite easy and perform well, but go for a 85 cm board and a bigger sail, constant wind # 12-14 knots.

thx

Apart the learning period the aim is to fly in less than 10 kts (very frequent summer condition in front of my house) with some joy.
To fly itself is funny but I'm looking for some "sporty" feeling too. After the needed training, if I can reach that feeling then I'll get in wind foil. If not I'll keep windsurf.

No problem to achieve such performances in less than 10 kn.
But then you should think about 8.4-9.3 + fw + ... your foil is perfect.

I would have suggested to start with something more freeride / powerfull / smaller sails at first, and then to upgrade to a race configuration but in your case just go on the water...

Direct comparison in my case (90-95 kilo)

Ref = windsurfing, fw 11.0, freerace or slalom85, foiling point :
Minus 2-3 sqm, 7-8 knt
Vini xlw 8.4 >> fw 11.0
Vini xlw 7.8 > fw 11.0
Minus 1-2 sqm
Sb short fuselage 800 wings <=> Vini LW
Similar size fin/sb 550 wings

Thx fifi.
The Starboard foil offered to me is the race carbon with 115 fuselage,95 mast,800 ft wing.
The more I see light wind video (of great sailors) the more I think this is (my) future for such conditions. Maybe it’s not yet the right time but, IMO, will be harder and harder to see slalom light wind show (light?! WTF, pwa starts slalom when it’s no less than steady 12/13 kts but they call it 7 kts!!) when you have real flying objects blasting in real less than 10 kts. Or else they would reset the rules...
Ok, still some more r&d to go for achieving a better standard base performance but here it goes.

Hi giu,I weigt 74 kg and can start flying in 8-10 knots with my loke envol foil and formula board, but only with a 8.1 sail.
When I started foiling I used to learn with slalom board and a 6.5 sail in 12-13 knots
Hope this help you,by mario

+1
Regarding windsurfing on a "normal" slalom 85 board + 8.4/8.6 + 48 cm, I was waitting for 13-14 knots otherwise go for FW + 11.0/9.8 (slower at the limit, but more constant speed on my lake).
With a foil (same guy, same anemometer, same average level, same mistakes..). sure you will start earlier with the same sail surface.
For exemple 13/14 knots flight is acheviable with my 5.9 sail + XLW wing (in your case SB 1100-1000 wings, or homemade adaptation, or 6.5/7.0 sail).

Concerning the SB with the 115 fuselage, it didn't match with my boards and weight (it works probably better on your FW).
I found the shorter fuselage easier, safer and having a wide range of wind / sails. But should try, many people like the 115...
