135/9.4 kar/z48 10-11 kts long chop

Wanted to see if the combo has enough juice to get me going in the light air. In freeride (no marks,no buddies surround) yes, it reacts quick and keeps planning quite easy. The trim is free and solid. The board is not super fat (I like that). With the mast base placed in line with the track rail square it sunk a bit when tacked. Foot pads are very comfy. If enough powered it points good but suspect it prefers x and down wind. However it feels nice balanced.

115/8.7 kar/z sf 40 13-25 kts super frontal choppy

Very difficult day at my local spot.
Many errors from my side and super difficult day (I also have broken the mast base tendon).
Will report something after next session.

135 update.

9.4/48 10-14 kts small chop, mast base circle in the middle of the track rail square.
Some sail tweak (added some spacer and shortened the boom length) and finally it works properly. Super easy to keep planning and very free riding. It does fine everything you want.

9.4/48-46 14-20 kts huge chop, mast base circle in line with the track rail square.
Crazy session with the local buddies. Plenty of power. With the 48 it was always wheeling. Swapped for the Lockwood 46 and it got much better settled. Found again speed and control and fought with the 7.8 people. Next time same wind I'll try the 44 and, maybe, the 8.7.

Slowly getting used to the big A (and the 9.4) and think it has nothing less than the brands mainstream. Plus, everybody who look at the boards got flashed!

115 update

Finally I got the chance to test it with the 7.9.
Wind was steady 20/25 kts with very difficult chop. Struggled a lot to find the right balance with mast base/foot straps/boom height/harness lines but then I sorted everything out and started to push on the gas. Finally the board is settled and smooth. It keeps planning easily and,to me,is a real monster in the first 30/40 meters (from standing still or after gibes). Then it keeps accelerating and it seems nothing can slow it down. No speed loss when you need to point but it's unreal when you unleash the beast. Stocked with gybe ability. Tested vs usual buddies I was feeling fast and got the confirm when couple of them tested the 115 (with their sails). Both (new) Fanatic and Starboard sailors liked the Angulo. 38 was too big in the gusts. Need a 36.5 ....

105

16/23 kts patchy gusty wind, choppy

7.9 kar - 35 cl

After couple of hours training using the 115 I decided to give the 105 a go.
Honestly,in the beginning,it looked as a forced call but as soon as I got in the water I was super surprised. Solid and quick to keep going, it never suffered for a big sail size or the relative short fin. Very plug and play. The main difference with the 115 is that it never get wheeling. Reminded me my ex Mistral. Gust gets in and it just accelerate with no nose flying. Trim is neutral, safe and solid. Gybes were smooth and fast.
Did a couple of course simulations (with marks in the water). Despite the patchy wind (that favors bigger boards) the difference with my buddy was just the gain or loss in starting. He was sailing the jp 71/e6 7.8/z37 (same level).
I think it's a 7.1 board that will be cool even with 6.3 and 7.9 (if you don't want down size the sail).
More to come

105 update

Hairy wind. Charged 34 and 7.1 and off I go.
The board now is different thasn first time. It's a beast. Always "ON". My fins have a lot of lift so I needed to set stuff to calm them out. Then I was flying flat and high above the chop with super solid feeling. I think the board did everything it should with great easiness. As other sizes jibes are insane.
Because of wind force I would have gone with 32/33.
Wonder how it will be with the 6.3... ...but absolutely need a smaller fin!
Super happy with my Magnum 2016!

115 update

New test with 8.7/cl2 38

Setting my sails with more dh than usual I've noticed they stay powerful anyway (even using the low clew grommet) but delivery less back hand (also added some spacer to lock more the profile where I like). Now I have not all that back hand pull that hurtled me a lot first time I've tested this combination. Wind was about 15/16 kits and was choppy like hell. Kept planning quite easily and tracked where I wanted to. Not sure if with my body it's the the fastest combo (I guess I would have been as fast with the 135/8.7 or using the 115/7.9) but needed to test it out. It was a solo session so no comparison partners. Good feeling overall. Maybe it could be better in flattish water.

More to come

115 update

Today tested the old Zsl 38 with 7.9.
Started in 18 kts and finished with 25 (gusting higher). Small chop.
Totally different feeling than my other fins. I was totally flat out but fully in control. The extra surface in the fin tip makes for a less flying nose and safer run. Not sure I was faster in 10sec but for sure I had a more solid runs. Impressed how much wind today I handled with this combo.

Had a little test of the challenger aero 7.8 2016.
Totally different sail than my Ka race. Much more direct and nervous. It transmits suddenly any gust to your body. If you're ready (and skilled) acceleration can be blasting. Really impressed with that. After the test I would have expected to be fired all day long from (same level) buddy, but it never happened. We were on par most of the times and, as long as the wind got stronger, I had the edge. I think my sail is (in my opinion) a little bit more comfortable and forgiving.

105 update

After a long while for some strong wind, finally I got the chance to sail the 105 in full 30 kts, little side chop and gusts over 30 kts. Ka race 6.3, cl2 34.
Settled everything "classic" (mast base in the middle, boom at mouth, harness lines longer than usual and pretty wide in the boom) and just just had a ball. Wind around 26-34 kts is not frequent here so I may be impressed by blistering acceleration, but the board is a really performer. I sailed both around figure 8 marks (couldn't set them better..) and pure GPS runs. With this wind. for same level people, you are faster just when you wrong less than others. I think my combo helped me A LOT to reduce errors. For some reason my GT31 didn't rec the session (doh!) and can't really say my speed but when I went for it feeling was great (expecially for the confidence the board transmits to the rider).
The whole session I was asking myself if a shorter fin would had been better but I have not one so far and kept pushing the 34. Almost no problem (just when pushed cross wind). Jibes were easy and smooth (never splashed). The run was very neutral, no wheeling or nose flying.
Can't say much more. Just it's a very good and balanced board. 7.9 to 6.3 is very big range.
