NEWS!
Hi All,
I have been receiving many emails and Facebook messages after New Caledonia,
most of them people asking me which equipment I have been using during the week of the PWA
slalom in Noumea.
Even though it’s been about 3 weeks ago that the event has happened, Questions still keeps on coming in.
Okay so:
I have been racing on my Gaastra Vapor 7.1 and Starboard isonic 107, with my 36,5 cm Carpenter fin in most of the races.
YES! the 7.1 fit perfectly on the 107, i believe this is a good combination for medium to strong wind.
I did some heats on my Gaastra Vapor 7.9 and Starboard isonic 107 with my 36,5cm Carpenter, because the Carpenter are so power i didn’t need to go to bigger fin on the isonic 107 with my 7.9 sail. i felt fast and comfortable on this setup.
With the Gaastra Vapor 8.6 and starboard isonic 120 I was using the Zfin ZSL 44s- cm, i had more speed/control/power on this fin than any other bigger fin i have tested, it is why I choose this fin for the event and because New caledonia is choppy the ZSL on the 120 was the better choice. I even use the Gaastra Vapor 7.9 on the Starboard isonic 120 with the Zfin ZSL 44s- , it was still good and i didn’t feel to go with a 42cm fin, the ZSL44s- was still good and easy with the 7.9.
sometimes I feel that a slightly bigger fin give you more control and it could avoid spins out and you can be more comfortable especially in gusty, choppy places.
Even though my fins are based on my personal feelings and the way i sail, So maybe my setup don’t work for everybody, but
everything depends on your type of board, year of made, plus your body height and weight.
My 2015 Starboard I had the following as my best setup.
isonic 87
fin: Zfin ZSl 32s-
sail size: 5.6 6.4 & 7.1
isonic 107
fin: Carpennter 36,5
sail size: 7.1 & 7.9
isonic 120
fin: Zfin ZSL 44s-
sail size: 7.9 & 8.6
I don’t know what 2016 will be like, but will keep you posted as soon I have all my gears and tested.
