How do they impact on the sail work?
What does it change if, for given specs, you use different material or stiffness?
What if you change tip, tube or road length?

Trying to figure out if tweaking with battens is a legend or true pros (functional) stuff.

I had recently a clinic with Pieter and learned a lot.
You can watch this video from him ...

i know he does carbon battens specifically for pwa riders... so you might get more info from him directly.

Hi giu I'm not a competitor and even with my poor level the main changes is the utilisation of carbon batten I mean real car on.I've used an ex challenger sail of Anders Bringdal and what a surprise when I broked one of them the sail has never the same feeling after the replacement even in the high wind than in the light
wind...

Yeah, I know the pro battens system from PB and I can easily imagine that some replacement will change the sail feeling.
I’m trying to start a thread where the basic rules regarding the battens can be written and which whom people can experiment on his own if he likes.
I guess the (very) few knowing the argument won’t really get in, but...

On my previous V8 2005, I made an upgrade of the std battens with battens from old racing sails.
Stiffness of the rear part was higher, and control when overpowered was better.
Battens are expensive regarding other componnents of sails, it's a good idea to save good battens from old sails before trashbox ;)

After a lot of trials, for my part i experienced that if you want that your sails works in each way you have to find the same stiffness than the original
The cheapest carbon pultruded tubes are too stiff, even if you reduce by 4 mm the section
roll wrap tube is more flexible but you can rely to the dealer indication, you have to buy and compare the stiffness
