Whole summer basic sailing (lessons and solo back and forth slogging in 0-12 kts) on dagger school board/sail. Not yet planning (just approached that last session using my isonic 85cm and his 3,5). Tacks, no planning gybes, no harness yet. 45 kg . ADDICTED! Usual club summer wind is 6-11 kts but we have 8-10 sessions in +14 kts. Or else we need to drive to catch some stronger wind.
He now needs his own board. Other club kids use freeride and similar, in sizes around 75cm . Many of them started planning but are getting more and more bored because of too little wind most of the times.
In my view a combination of "finning and foiling" is a strong option but it needs some more time to learn more basic stuff.
IQ 85? Tecno (nobody around here use those but i think it's a great way to start)? Class youth board (Firerace 120) ? Freemove/ride?
