allowed.
...have you seen the proto Gaastra in Santa Pola?

I tend to agree expecially because the "original" fw spirit was to reduce to the max the gap between pros and amateurs from the stuff point of view.
Now rules say that a board is for 2 season BUT sails can be changed every minute! No sense!
In this regard pros are already ahead because of fins...

fully agree.
I becomes even more a marketing issue -> develop one great sail for your pro sailor throughout the season, and keep selling ur production sai ( that may not be as good) l to amateurs... Shame.

When did this rule change? was it always the case?

this rule was introduced already some while ago. main reason was that it is technically just too difficult to distinguish a serial from a custom sail. not such a big deal if you ask me.

well, the pwa manages to do check that sails are production ones in slalom, so why not in Formula?
If you check out Jesper Vesterstroms interview in Brazil, he said that he got a new sail for the last race, which gave him more speed.(i quote from memory)

It would be interesting to know who is on a prototype and who is sailing stock.
When you spend 900 eur on a sail, it is always nicer to know what it is capable of, even if it is in the hands of a pro windsurfer that it will only give its best performance.

really?
I mean I am naive for sure but I would have hoped that there was no cheating... is that the dirty little secret of pwa racing?
