Hallo,

is the AFS 95 a good one to start and progress with?
80 kg, foil beginner, experienced fw, used to pump stuff onto planning, still not sure the board to start with.

If i've rightly understood the "original" F700 needs more than 12 kts. This is not the aim i'd like to foil for (at the moment). My idea is to start and progress to mainly enjoy the local light summer breeze, hoping to avoid to drive too much to find good proper wind for slalom stuff (which still is the main activity in my region).

Hi Giu, I'm 1,88m and 80kg like you. I've choosen the AFS 95 in order to get a good compromise between performance and tide constraints (Britany = tides). And the AFS 95 is a perfect one to start and progress with and even going further (performance, competition...). I've been using the F800 and F700 since this summer. The F800 is a magic easy-to-use wing, I use it from 10kn to 14kn, with my 7,8m2. It's only drawback is its low speed, but it's big quality is its easiness and amazing stability. I'll test soon the R1000. As soon as the wind is well established (from 12kn till 16kn), I use the F700 wing with my 7,8m2.

if that means i cannot "fly" in as light as 10 kts then i keep having the "light wind" problem (which is the main reason i would start the foil!).
I can accept the fact that the first period i will need good air to easily take off but I hope i can lower the thresold. Off course I could use the F700 as 2nd option, when the wind is in 12-15 kts range?

What about the board i should start with?

I cannot really help for the choice of the board, I've a too short experience of foil boards... I've been using the Zeeko board (215x81) since 1 year, this one is perfect for me. Why not choosing an AHD board (same company as the AFS foil)?
Regarding the 10kn wind threshold: for the time being, 9kn-10kn is the threshold for me with the F800 and a 7,8m2... but you could may be get an earlier take off with your Formula experience (pumping in 8kn)? As soon as the wind is 12n and more, the F700 brings more speed and agility compared with the F800.

Thx but this kind of boards are not in my plans. I’d prefer keep slalom and foil separated.

I use the AFS on my formula board for light wind sailing. With a good size sail it works from 7 to 8 knots of wind

Yes, this is what I have imagined for the beginning but, if you consider the cost of a used fw board and the cost to upgrade the fin box i'm no sure anymore it's the best option...

La RF81 fonctionne ultra bien avec les foils AFS. Je navigue depuis le début avec un AFS 85 puis 105. J'en ai une à vendre si ça t'intéresse.
