My main feelings of 1000 vs 1200: early flight difference is marginal. For early flight I use 8.6 TurboGT + PD Formula, difference is about 1 knot. The main difference is in feeling, the 1200 feels more stable at slower speed / when less powered up, however the 1000 wing powers up faster. It has a more direct acceleration, meaning you will need less wind / power compared to the 1200 to start getting up to speed and getting the high upwind angles. I would never dream of using the 1000 with a small sail, because it also needs the efficient sail. I use the 1200 with 4-5m smaller (keep saying it, most of you guys rig way too much with the 1200, its bloody efficient and with good pumping you can go way smaller than you think..) than surfers of similar weight in about 14-16 knots (3.6 vs 7.8/8.6 with 85kg), don’t think I could with the 1000 wing (which on the other hand I can use with 8.6 in over 18 knots). However, with the 1000 wing in about 8-9 knots I feel powered up, already get close to my maximum upwind angles and get speeds up to 24 knots, which is completely unthinkable for the 1200 in that windrange.
My 2 cents (for everyone who doesn’t skip posts in english entirely) if you want to freeride comfortably / jibe / rig small sails: 1200, if you want to go fast, rig bigger sails / bigger boards: 1000. The 1200 has better low wind stability and marginally earlier flight, the 1000 is faster, more comfortable with bigger sails, has a way broader windrange mostly upwards and feels more powered up in less wind once you get flying.
